Cash Back for Internet Shopping

There are several online merchants which give a commission to various web sites (middle men, basically) for steering customers to them. This is how it works -

1. You go to a website that offers this feature and log into your account

2. Click on the link for the store where you want to shop online

3. Go through your purchasing process as you would normally do

4. Check out and pay

This is the basic process and each individual middle man website will have more details. But once you do this correctly, the cash back amount will be reported into your account in a few days. Normally there is a waiting period (typically 60-90 days) before you can actually withdraw the money.

What do the middle men or aggregators get? They keep a portion of the commission and pass the rest to the customer. Some of the well known aggregators are Ebates and Microsoft Live. Microsoft has been the most aggressive of the lot by not retaining anything and passing everything to the customer. They are essentially trying to make people use the MS Live website (live.com) more often.

Here are some links to use -

Microsoft Live Cashback

Ebates – has a $5 signup bonus

Evreward.com – check here first to see which aggregator offers the highest cash back, then go through them

Amazon shoppers – your luck is out, Amazon doesn’t offer anything like this for customers.
